Shippers call for Rail bill changes
The Coalition of Rail Shippers (CRS) are supporting the Federal Governments amendments to Rail bill C-52 – Fair Rail Freight Service Act. Bill C-52 will offer shippers a better opportunity to negotiate with their rail carriers. Part of the aim is to make the rail carriers more accountable for service delays. The federal government introduced this legislation December 11, 2012 and it is now at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. After an industry study, the CRS reported 6 important amendments to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, February 26, 2013. With these amendments, CRS feels this will bring about the balanced relationship that the government intended. Efficiencies and improvements in this sector are essential for growing the economy.
