Greetings from the Prime Minister
I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone marking National Trucking Week 2013.
The trucking industry plays a vital role in the Canadian economy. Our trucking transportation services ensure the safe and efficient flow of goods across our vast country and with our major trading partners. I am delighted to have this opportunity to recognize our hardworking trucking professionals for their extraordinary efforts to serve Canadian businesses and communities throughout the year.
Our Government has taken important steps to enhance the safety, efficiency and productivity of the industry. We are addressing key issues such as border pre-inspection, investment in highway infrastructure, fatigue management and the transportation of dangerous goods, among others. Our goal is to support the trucking industry and strengthen Canada’s economy in the process.
An important component of this approach is our historic new partnership with the United States – Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness. We are committed to bringing our border into the 21st century and increasing cooperation with the United States. Key sectors of our economy, including the trucking industry, will benefit from this landmark agreement.
