New Canadian Cargo Hub: Windsor ON
The Canadian Federal Government has planned to invest $19.9 million in cargo and research facilities in Windsor On in hopes of turning the city into an international cargo hub. The first of two major projects is the development if the Institute for Border Logistics and Security (IBLS) at the University of Windsor. The IBLS main objective will be to research the development of new concepts, applications and approaches to logistics, security, and international trade.
The second project receiving funding from both the Federal Government and the city of Windsor is Your Quick Gateway (YQG), which will include a 10,000 sqf facility to house the IBLS program, a 35000 sqf facility to house Fedex Express ( a cargo facility that has committed to a 20 year lease), and a 27000 sqf facility hoping to attract business that will utilize not only the Fedex Express location but the airport itself.
The overall intent is to build and maintain the Windsor Detroit corridor, and to bring economic development to the city of Windsor.
