Everything You Need to Know About the U.S Hours of Service Changes

Changes to the new Hours of Service rules comes into effect at midnight EST on Tuesday September 29th or 9pm PST Sep 28th, or 11pm CST Sep 28th etc. Times are according to your time zone.  These changes that were announced in May have been designed to offer drivers a little more flexibility.  For the short haul drivers the distance within which they can operate has been increased from 100 miles to 150 miles.  And their ‘on-duty’ period increased from 12 to 14 hours. Additional changes will take adverse driving conditions into account.  New sleeper berth rules allow a driver to split the required 10 hours off.  And changes to the 30 minute break rule allows a driver to take this break after 8 hours of actual driving time rather than after 8 hours of on-duty time.  …read more
