Changes to Harmonized Sales Tax
Some Provinces across Canada have combined their Provincial Sales Tax (PST) with the Good & Services Tax (GST) to create the Harmonized Sales tax (HST). The tax amount applicable for each province can vary. Effective April 1, 2013, the Province of British Columbia has eliminated the 12% HST and replaced it with the 5% GST. As well, Prince Edward Island has increased their tax from the 5% GST to 14% HST. 9% of that representing the Provicial Tax and 5% for the Goods & Services Tax or Federal portion.
