Highway Freight Brokerage Dispatcher with Flatbed Experience

The primary role of the Highway Brokerage Dispatcher is to coordinate the transportation of customers’ shipments with select carriers based on transit times, services requirements and negotiated price. The incumbent seeks out the best method of optimizing profit margin without compromising service.


  • Review and analyze load booking information to determine the level of service the customer requires.
  • Contact carriers to confirm availability of equipment based on the service level required. Negotiate the transportation of loads in a cost effective manner.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and concerns providing solutions regarding costs, services and load offerings.
  • Act as the key liaison between the carriers and the customers.
  • Schedule pickup and delivery appointments. Communicate any changes, delays or service issues to the customers, shippers or consignees.
  • Resolve carrier service issues directly, re-negotiating rates as required.
  • Build strong relationships with the carriers assigned through communication and ongoing monitoring of on time performance.
  • Create and maintain profiles for new and active carriers.
  • Other duties and assignments as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED Education and Industry Knowledge

  • High school diploma.
  • College Diploma / University Degree in Business, Logistics or International Trade is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in logistics / transportation industry.
  • Complete understanding of the North American transportation industry.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. customs procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of North American geography.
  • Knowledge of equipment types and their usage: Vans, Flatbeds, Stepdecks, Floats etc…

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Working knowledge of transportation management software (UFOs, PC Miler, etc.) is an asset.
